is an Indian politician serving as the 15th Chief Minister of Odisha since June 12, 2024. Born on January 6, 1972, in Raikala village, Keonjhar district, Odisha, he belongs to the Santhal tribal community. He completed his Bachelor of Arts from Chandra Sekhar College, Champua, and later pursued Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from Dhenkanal Law College. Before entering politics, he worked as a teacher at Saraswati Shishu Mandir in Jhumpura.
Shri Mohan Charan Majhi began his political career in 1997 as Sarpanch of Raikala Panchayat. He was elected to the Odisha Legislative Assembly from the Keonjhar Sadar Assembly constituency in 2000 for the first time and re-elected in 2004. Later, he got elected in 2019 and retained the seat in the 2024 elections. During his tenure from 2019 to 2024, he served as the Chief Whip of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the Odisha Legislative Assembly.
In General Election, 2024, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured a clear mandate by winning 78 of the 147 seats, paving the way for Shri Majhi to be sworn in as Chief Minister—the first person from the Santhal tribal community to hold the office in Odisha.
